I work with publishers to put together new ideas for garden books and book series, as well as working up concepts to create detailed, well-structured flatplans. I also co-ordinate and style photographic shoots.
I edited and planned this popular guide to garden design, published jointly by Dorling Kindersley and the RHS. Bringing together a collection of highly acclaimed authors and designers – including RHS show judge Andrew Wilson and Chelsea award-winners, Andy Sturgeon and Cleve West – it combines inspirational ideas with practical skills. Aimed at the beginner and those just embarking on a career in design, the book is now on many university and college course reading lists.
Working closely with the RHS and publishers Dorling Kindersley, I devised this series of books for complete beginners, introducing new gardeners to the subject. There are now 14 books in this highly successful series, including Vegetables and Fruit in Pots, Planting a Small Garden, Shrubs and Small Trees, Clematis and Climbers, Water in a Small Garden, Vegetables in a Small Garden, and Plants for Shade.
This book, written by Martyn Cox, shows readers how to plant indoor and outdoor plants, and fruit and vegetables in containers. I was the project editor and also wrote the last chapter on planting techniques, as well as helping to set up and style the original photography.
I collaborated with Diarmuid to produce this beautifully illustrated book, which presents all the information you need to design your garden in 10 easy steps.
Another collaboration with Diarmuid, this book showcases 25 of his most visionary gardens from the acclaimed BBC TV series, Home Front in the Garden.
I was co-editor of this comprehensive guide to horticulture. Covering essential gardening techniques, the book is set out in an easy-to-follow format and includes all the basics, from understanding soil and climate, to growing ornamental plants and dealing with pests and diseases.
As well as editing these small, “dumpy” books, ideal for taking with you to the garden centre, I also wrote the introductions. Each title in the series is themed according to plant types, and includes Shrubs and Climbers, Fuchsias, and Annuals and Biennials.
Green goddess Sheherazade Goldsmith was the editor-in-chief of this lifestyle title, which I co-edited. It demonstrates a range of projects and ideas for growing and cooking organic food, and reducing your carbon footprint.
